Romantic Safari at Tau Game Lodge

Romantic Safari at Tau Game Lodge

Situated in South Africa’s fourth-largest game reserve comprising 720 square km and malaria-free, the Madikwe Private Game Reserve, Tau Game Lodge is an ideal 5-star romantic, corporate and family safari destination, where the state-of-the-art Convention Centre, the Tau Spa Oasis (opened in 2008) and the Tau Cubz Club children’s programme are further attractions to the historical Groot (Great) Marico region bordering Botswana.

Overlooking a natural waterhole, the thirty luxury chalets as well as the convivial hospitality decks offer excellent views of game frolicking and quenching their thirst.

Tau’s waterhole spans along most hospitality and room decks, offering 24-hour entertainment of the carnival of animals that can be viewed via the Tau webcam 24/7!

Madikwe Game Reserve boasts ideal year-round game viewing, ranging from the Big 5 to spotted and brown hyena, buffalo, leopard, zebra and the endangered African wild dog. The large variety of antelope species includes impala, springbok, kudu, waterbuck, eland, blesbok, nyala, sable and wildebeest. Giraffe, ostrich and warthog, together with an array of smaller mammals, are amongst the magnificent animals that roam the reserve, whilst the Reserve is also populated with over 250 different bird species. This makes for a world-class, memorable safari.

Conservation

Tau management is constantly striving to reduce its carbon footprint and one of the most recent developments is to eliminate the use of plastic water bottles. Guests are provided with reusable water bottles on arrival, which can be refilled at various water stations situated around the guest chalets and the lodge.

Of the Big 5, the rhino is currently the most endangered species and South Africa is home to more rhinos than any other country on earth, but at the current rate of poaching, fuelled mainly by a magnanimous demand from the Asian traditional medicine trade, this may not be true for long. Although no accurate records exist for the rest of Africa, the rhino’s situation is deemed to be as dire as it is in South Africa.

No hunting is permitted in the Madikwe Game Reserve and guests are safely ensconced at Tau, while game roam free around the lodge and throughout the Reserve.

Conservation fees are compulsory for visitors to Tau and the Madikwe Reserve.

Tau’s additional eco-friendly commitments include

sponsoring university education of local learners who are proving to be promising students;
supporting local schools and community industry;
educating the community to be self-sufficient by example;
rangers planting indigenous trees;
supporting and stimulating the performing arts by employing local community choir and dance groups;
utilising natural aromatherapy massage oils such as the eco-friendly Africology range of products at the Tau Spa Oasis
